Scott Base Tongariro Field Trip 2009 Earth Work

New Zealand is an amazing country with its long coastline framing the land, mountains ranges, volcanoes and alluvial plains, numerous rivers, lakes and wetlands, and unique fauna and flora. Our goal is to equip our graduates with key skills and knowledge in demand by professions working within the broad arena encompassed by the environmental, Earth and ocean sciences. Our graduates are spread across New Zealand and around the globe, working in an enormous range of careers, from Earth resources exploration to environmental management and planning, and from scientific research to teaching.

Earth and Ocean Information

An understanding of Earth and the oceans is vital if we are to sustainably manage our planet's energy, water, mineral, soil and coastal resources. The Earth and ocean sciences are also the key to predicting and managing natural hazards such as floods, earthquakes, tsunami, landslides and volcanic eruptions.

Earth and Ocean Sciences at Waikato includes the study of coastal and marine science, climate, hydrology and water resources, natural hazards, sedimentary geology and tectonics, soil and land resources and volcanology.

Our graduates continue to be highly successful in gaining employment. The careers they are embarking on provide work that is interesting, challenging and can lead to a range of excellent longer-term prospects.
